Security When Ordering Online
We take security of your personal data very seriously indeed. Nobody outside of Flybuyer gets access to your personal information. If we do send out any promotional information (we don't like receiving it so we tend not to send it) it's only sent to you with your express consent.
I hear a lot of, well quite frankly, rubbish spoken about ordering from the Internet so I thought it was about time to put the record straight! This information applies to all Internet shopping sites but has been written with Flybuyer customers in mind.
You should not be worried about ordering goods via the Internet if you follow a few simple rules. Non of the precautions you need to take are technical in nature, you just need to shop smart! The image below shows the checkout page of Flybuyer, at the final stage, when you give your payment details. This is the only stage of the buying process that needs to be secure. Just adding items to the shopping cart does not need the security of the golden padlock.
Rule 1: Never enter your credit card details into a web site unless you see the golden padlock at the bottom of your browser. The image shows two important visual checks you should make when giving your credit card information out over the Internet. The top red circle highlights the address of the web page you are viewing. This must start "https://", if the address starts "http://" (no "s") do not give that web site any card details. The "s" stands for secure which means that any information transmitted will be encrypted and therefore safe from prying eyes. The bottom red circle indicates where to find the golden padlock. Double-click the padlock to see the security certificate issuer. These certificates are only issued by a few companies and it's function is basically to tell you we are who we say we are. When dealing with a new company check out the certificate, if you are unsure send them an email, they should be only to happy to answer any questions you may have.
Rule 2: The con artists out there try anything they can to get your details and will masquerade as a bank, Nigerian government representative or even the Dutch Lotto! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER respond to an email asking you for credit card details, passwords or bank account details under any circumstances. The only credit card data we ever ask for via email is an expiry date and that's only in the event of a typing error on the part of a customer.
If you still feel uncomfortable about ordering from the web we also take orders by telephone, fax and letter. There is always a human (or a close resemblance to one) here to take you call (0845 6 444 575 local rate call number). Please see the Order Offline page for more information.
I hope this helps you understand Internet security, it does not have to be technical, it's more about common sense - you wouldn't walk down the street with your wallet hanging out of your back pocket now would you?
